Below is a photo of the woman who comes to our office each morning to sell fruit. She carries mangos, pineapples, papaya and something else I do not recognize on a platter on her head. She walks up to the second floor and announces herself and then walks to the base of the stairs, all with the fruit on her head. There are thousands of woman all over Accra carrying wares on their heads and all stronger than we could hope to be. Today I helped her take the platter off her head. It weighed over 50 pounds. I could barely carry it down to her stool, which she carries with a bag for her styrofoam containers. The mangos are big and cost 2 cedis (80 cents). She then peels a whole mango with a sharp knife and cuts it up into a container. I, of course, asked before I took her picture.
